Sunbreak - a New Chapter

DiscNW welcomed nearly 1,700 players from 79 teams to the inaugural year of Sunbreak! Teams traveled from across the US and Canada, and from as far as Australia and the Philippines. Three days of sun, showers, and weather in the 70s made for plenty of sunbreaks all weekend long! Fun competition with friends was a great way to kickoff our re-branded event.

Congrats to our winners: Cleansweep 7 won the A bracket, The Huckstreet Boys were second.

And to our spirit winners. This year, we awarded these five teams the new Mike Keran Spirit Award. This award went to each player on these teams to commemorate Mike, his contributions to the sport, and to our summer tournament. We were honored to remember him on the field and keep alive his love of the game and spirited play. Best Overall Spirit – Whose Disc is it Anyway? (Bellingham, WA) Spirit Runners Up – Beach Owls (Seattle, WA), Jazz Picnic (Seattle, WA), Stella! (Seattle, WA), and Rainbow Brite (North America)

Additional spirit awards went to: Best Costume – Twincest Toros (Washington DC and Washington State) Best Spirit Gift – The Upside Down (Portland, OR)

This event can only happen because of the work of a lot of dedicated volunteers: We heartily thank our Tournament directors Kong Cheung, Kat Overton, Kate Speck, and Summer Jackson; key volunteers Daniel Yuen and Scott Causey; and all the local teams who pitch in for volunteer duties. Thanks for building our Ultimate Community!

Thank you to all our sponsors and vendors: Georgetown Brewery, FiveUltimate, Discraft, and Ultima Replenisher.

We also appreciate all our partners who made the tournament and event happen: The Catering Company, Seattle Cider Company, Port-a-Field, The SnapBar, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and Jennie Mae Massage.

Fall Adult League Registration Opens Soon

Fall Registration will open in early August in our new web back-end. You will notice a new look and feel (thanks to everybody who participated in the branding survey!) - but all the same info will be there. There are new features, some that work differently, but captains and coordinators will still have all the tools they need.

One of the big changes you will notice is that the ‘register now’ button will be at the bottom of each event page -- not at the top.

Buddy registration for hat leagues also works a bit differently: when you select a buddy, the system will notify your buddy to register and accept the pairing. They will have to do so, or your buddy status will not be accepted by the system.

New options will be available in the player profile for gender identity including: Male and female, which match up correspondingly.

Other, non-binary, genderfluid, agender, bigender, and gender-queer. Each of these options allows you to specify a male or female matchup.

Once the new system is live, you may update your gender identity in your player profile at any time.

If you have any questions about these options please review the Gender Inclusion Policy. We will be importing all of our current DiscNW player profiles and accounts. If you have an existing Ultimate Central account with the same email, they will be merged.

If you have an existing Ultimate Central account with a different email -- don’t panic! We can merge those too.

If you have a DiscNW account, your login info will remain the same. Contact info@discnw.org or support@ultimatecentral.com -- either help desk can update accounts for you at any time.

We will continue to post tips in our newsletter, on event pages, and throughout the website. If you have questions at any time, email us at info@discnw.org, and we will help guide you through our new processes. We will let everybody know when the new site is live!
